Cricut Pen Project.
Use your Cricut to jump start hand-colored cards for all the special people in your life. Upload a vintage black and white image to Cricut Design Space and let the machine do the drawing for you! Finish the illustration using your favorite markers or colored pencils for a colorful front to handmade holiday cards.
Cricut machine with .04 tip basic black pen
Cardstock or watercolor paper (choose watercolor paper if you plan to color using alcohol-based markers)
Markers or colored pencils
Scrapbook paper in coordinating colors (optional)
Blank cards and envelopes
Tape runner or paper glue
Locate a copyright-free vintage black and white image to use for your card. The images used in the project samples were found on Graphics Fairy. Download an edited version of the winter birds here and the girl on the sled here.
Upload the image to Cricut Design Space. Click to select and erase the background. Upload the resulting image to your canvas.
Set the image to write using a fine point black pen.
Create a rectangle that is appropriate for the size of your cards and envelopes. The rectangle in the birds sample is 6.25″ x 4.25″. Set the rectangle to cut. Size the image and center it on the rectangle. Attach the rectangle and image.
Follow the machine prompts to make the project. The machine will draw the image on cardstock or watercolor paper and then cut it out.
Color the image using markers or colored pencils. The sample project uses alcohol-based markers from Spectrum Noir. Attach the colored image to the front of the card using double stick tape or paper glue. Layer the colored image with additional coordinating scrapbook papers if desired.
