4th of July Paper Star Banner with Cricut Explore Air 2

This cute 3D star banner is easy to make and perfect to hang up for your 4th of July celebration! You can easily make other variations of it as well with different themed paper for birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, etc.

Materials Needed:

Start out by making your stars in Design Space. You can easily draw the stars with the shape tool. Layout your stars so you can fit what you need for one color of paper onto one sheet. I did it the following way:

Here is the breakdown of what you need for paper and stars. Note that you will have one extra star, but you can use this to practice scoring and folding. You will also need to cut out 5 stars (2″ each) from a white sheet of paper.

I added circles to cut out of these so I could get a smaller hole than a hole punch. The circles I made are 0.1″. You’ll need to slice the circles out of the stars by selecting the two objects and hitting slice at the bottom of your layers menu.

After you do this you need to weld your layers (select all layers and then select weld) so that the stars stay on your canvas where you put them when you go to cut your project.

Score each star by placing a ruler from one point of the star to the point directly across from it. If you use the scoring tool like I did, you will want to practice first to get the right pressure (if you press too hard it will cut all the way through). You could also use Cricut’s scoring stylus to have the machine do it for you.

Once you have your lines, fold your star together to make it 3D.

Now that all the stars are cut out, use spray adhesive on the backs of the top stars to attach to the larger stars. (I tried using rubber cement first and that did not turn out well).

Wait for you project to dry, and then you can put them on the string. I chose to do a top row of larger stars with the smaller ones hanging down, but you could also string the smaller ones in between the larger ones to just make one row.

I think it turned out cute!
